After many weeks of dry weather, Perry is finally getting some relief. This morning, residents woke up to steady rainfall—welcome news for the community that has watched our ponds shrink, yards turn brittle, and dust rise with every passing car.
The lack of rain in recent weeks has left its mark. Lawns across the area have been struggling, with grass turning brown and hard underfoot. Shallow ponds and ditches have been drying up, leaving little water for wildlife and adding to local concerns about fire hazards.
Today’s rain is a much-needed turnaround. Even a few hours of steady showers can help replenish soil moisture, restore ponds, and cool the late-September air. It also gives a fresh start to fall gardens and provides relief for farmers and landowners.
Rain doesn’t fix drought conditions overnight, but it is a step in the right direction. For Perry, it’s more than just a change in the weather, it’s healthy for our yards and to our thriving ecosystems.
For now, residents can enjoy the sound of rain on the roof and the sight of puddles forming once again and the slow rise of water to the ponds.
